Residential Summer Gifted Program Instructors

Baylor TIP Residential Gifted Program Instructors provide teaching and mentoring experiences to the students who qualify for and participate in summer residential programs offered through The Center for Gifted Education and Talent Development. TIP Instructors are responsible for teaching a course that is appropriately rigorous and challenging for high ability students. They plan and conduct their class in adherence to Baylor TIP's guidelines, monitor and report on the progress of each of their students, and supervise their Teaching Assistant. TIP Instructors are typically in class with students from 9:00-12:00 and from 1:00-4:00 each day, Monday-Friday. They also oversee an evening study session run by their Teaching Assistant for one hour each evening.

Job Responsibilities

  • Complete all required trainings and job-specific assignments prior to working with students

  • Work with Center leadership team to develop a course syllabus that meets Baylor TIP's guidelines and to request and acquire supplies for the course that stay within the allocated budget

  • Arrive at Baylor several days prior to the start of the class for on-site trainings and class set-up

  • Attend all required staff meetings

  • Engage students in the content by utilizing best educational practices

  • Assist students in identifying and understanding their talents and college/career goals

  • Actively supervise students during the academic day to ensure their safety and well-being

  • Adhere to and enforce all safety and risk management policies

  • Collaborate with the leadership team and residential staff to resolve any student disciplinary issues or concerns in an appropriate manner that aligns with the Center's mission and policies

  • Maintain positive relationships with students, parents, and staff

  • Provide appropriate guidance and planning for assigned Teaching Assistant

  • Participate in parent meetings at the beginning and end of the course session

  • Complete all tasks required for effectively closing the class (submitting student evaluations, returning supplies that belong to Baylor, reporting any property damage that occurred during the course, etc.)

    Qualifications:
    Minimum Qualifications

    Bachelor's Degree and enrolled in a graduate degree program in the area of instruction; relevant professional experience in content area being taught may substitute for graduate-level coursework

    Content expertise in the area of instruction (e.g., mathematics, engineering etc.)

    Ability to communicate effectively and positively with students, families, and other staff

    Strong organizational skills

    Preferred Qualifications


    Completed graduate degree in content area being taught

    Prior training in pedagogical skills and/or experience teaching

    Experience providing exceptional customer service

    Strong written communication skills
